About this experience

  • Saturday 26 July: 10am-4pm

The tradition of making rag rugs emerged when textiles were precious, and every scrap was reused. Rag rugs now offer a creative way to repurpose fabrics in a world where textile waste is so abundant. Annie will lead you through crafting your own, beginning with thoughtful design and colour selection. You’ll prepare your rags and master the simple yet effective techniques of threading and looping to transform fabric into a sturdy, long-lasting rug that tells a unique story through the materials you’ve repurposed.

  • This workshop is for adults 18 years or older.
  • There will be some rags for the workshop provided but students are encouraged to bring about a grocery bags worth of their own to the workshop. Op shops, friends, the recycle centre are all good sources. It’s especially nice to use fabric that has some meaning to you. The fabric needs to be of a woven material not knitted. Think old sheets, dress material, old duvet covers, anything cotton or poly cotton / linen will be great, lots of possibilities here. If you aren’t completely sure bring it and we can discuss. 30cm and upwards in length is fine.
  • Please also bring a sharp pair of scissors.
