Wednesday 5 October, 12.30- 2.30pm, Craft Opportunities- Putiputi Raranga / Weaving for Youngsters

Come along and learn how to weave a putiputi- flax flower with Ngaio Cowell in a workshop held at the Climate Action Campus workshop, which is located at 44 Cowlishaw Street, Avonside.

This workshop is suitable for children aged 10 and over without supervision. Children aged 8 - 9 will require an adult with them. If you are not staying with your child, please come in to speak with the tutor at the start and leave an emergency contact number, and return prior to the end time of the workshop to collect them.

This workshop is free/low-cost for Community Service Card holders, though donations are appreciated. The standard workshop price of $33 applies for those without cards. Please select the appropriate option at the bottom of the page

Learn to create a simple flower in a koru design with local kairaranga Ngaio Cowell. You'll also learn how to use a repurposed pasta machine to make harakeke ribbon. A wonderful beginner workshops for those that have never worked with harakeke before. Tamariki are welcome with whānau support.

Ngaio Cowell (Tainui; Ngaati Te Ata & Ngāti Porou) is a craftsperson who takes inspiration from nature. Ngaio is currently completing her Kawai Raupapa- Te Whare Pora at Te Wānanga o Aotearoa. She has learnt to weave with tī kōuka from Diana Duncan and continues to create artworks from foraged and native materials through business Tipu Toi.

Ngaio is passionate about Kai sovereignty and will be teaching as part of our Resourceful Kai Programme.

A credit may be issued if you are unable to attend due to illness or COVID isolation and advise Rekindle as soon as possible, prior to your workshop. A transfer fee may apply.

Credits will not be issued with less than 24 hours notice given.
