Thursday 6 February 2020, 11.30am to 2.30pm - Spoon-carving for beginners - Rekindle at Okains Bay for Waitangi Day

This workshop is held at the Okains Bay Māori and Colonial Museum.

Please note that the workshop price does not include the $10 entry fee for adults to the museum (children $2, pre-schoolers are free). Please bring cash and please do note that this is the museum’s key fundraising day, so do come along and support them!

We are honoured to be taking part in Waitangi Day commemorations at Okains Bay on 6 February 2020. As part of this, we have been invited to present some workshops at the wonderful Okains Bay Māori and Colonial Museum.

So come along and learn how to make a spoon at Okains Bay and be part of the Waitangi Day commemorations.

You will learn basic whittling techniques with a straight & curved whittling knives, and learn all about the ancient traditions of greenwood-working.

Please note: This workshop is only suited to adults and those who can work safely without direct supervision with very sharp hand tools. The image below shows the kinds of tools we’ll be using.

There are 8 places available in this workshop.

Minimum numbers are required for the class to run.

Bookings are essential, non-refundable and non-transferable. We do, however, understand that things come up and try and accommodate people to the best of our ability. This can include moving people to another class or a refund - but please be aware that this is reliant on us filling the original spot.

This is because all of our pricing, and our efforts to keep costs as low as possible while still paying the tutors a fee commensurate with their experience and allowing them to cover the costs of living, is based on running these classes with a certain number of participants

We are grateful for the support of CNZ, which has enabled us to offer this at a subsidised rate.

The price covers a portion of the: tutor's wage, workshop rent, materials & the labour to collect them, tools & their maintenance, electricity, insurance & other overheads. We are working to keep workshop prices as low as we possibly can.
