This class is held at our Arts Centre workshop, which is located upstairs in the Boys’ High building at 28 Worcester Boulevard.
Make your own Courage Doll from the resources you have around you with dollmaker Hilary Jean Tapper. You will create an enchanting 23cm doll by hand.
Participants are welcome to bring any pre-loved fabrics from home that they'd like to make their doll from, as well as sewing materials. More details about fabric will be sent out to participants before the workshop. Re-purposed fabrics and materials will also be provided.
You'll hear about the tradition of dollmaking and learn how to hand stitch as you craft your doll. No prior sewing or dollmaking skills are required.
Please note we will just be creating the doll in this workshop, not the outfits. You will be provided with outfit patterns and online resources for how to create outfits from home, and there will be specific outfit workshops you can book into.
This class is suited to adults, though capable youngsters 12 years old and over can attend with adult supervision
There are 5 places available in this workshop.
Bookings are essential, non-refundable and non-transferable. We do, however, understand that things come up and try and accommodate people to the best of our ability. This can include moving people to another class or a refund - but please be aware that this is reliant on us filling the original spot.
This is because all of our pricing, and our efforts to keep costs as low as possible while still paying the tutors a fee commensurate with their experience and allowing them to cover the costs of living, is based on running these classes with a certain number of participants.
We are grateful to be able to offer this workshop in a partially subsidised manner because of support from Creative New Zealand, and from Te Matatiki Toi Ora the Arts Centre.
Management of COVID-19 risk:
Participants who are unwell, or who are required to self-isolate, must not attend the workshop. Refunds will be given if participants need to miss the workshop in order to manage the risk of COVID-19, however we need to be advised of this as soon as possible, so that we can fill the space. Refunds will not be given if participants arrive to the workshop unwell on the day.
