Textile twine Making with Sylvia Houston

You'll learn to reuse existing scraps of material and old clothes by turning them into a beautiful length of twine. Using a simple twisting technique, strips of leftover material are transformed into something infinitely useful - a piece of string!

This practice of repurposing scraps or rags encourages reflection on our current fashion and accessorising habits and inspires us to discover value of what we already have on hand.

Sylvia Houston is a self taught seamstress who established RAG - Repair Alterations Garments - a vital service to help people get more use out of the clothes that they already own. RAG came out of Sylvia’s ongoing focus on renewing old clothing through innovative design, and making use of the large quantities of offcuts that she saw being produced in the fashion industry.

Sylvia is running two separate workshops in the stunning old Gym building at the Arts Centre, on Monday 12th November 10.30am - 12.30pm and Thursday 15th November 10.30am - 12.30pm.

Participants to please bring scraps of material/ old clothing to cut up.

Suitable for all 8 years and over, and for 8-13 year olds preferably with a parent present during the workshop.
