Sunday 5 July, 10am-12pm, Making Beeswax Wraps with Samantha Fay in New Brighton

This workshop is held at New Brighton Stitch-o-Mat, 140 Seaview Rd, New Brighton

Make your own set of food wraps and a cheesebag for plastic-free food wrapping & carrying. We will use local and reused materials to make products that lead to a zero waste household.  We will transform these local resources - fabric saved from waste and beeswax that is produced in Ellesmere - into lovely beeswax wraps and cheese bag.

We are so fortunate to have Samantha Fay and Bridget Allen sharing their resourceful skills as part of our workshop programme. Samantha and Bridget run New Brighton Stitch-O-Mat, which offers the community a resource for up-skilling sewing skills and a hands-on way to recycle fabric and develop creativity. Machines are available for people to use for their own sewing project, or to sew for a community project such as the Veggie Co-op and the Childrens' Ward at Christchurch Hospital. Stitch-O-Mat also offers a Learn-to-Sew class and Sustainability Workshops, plus more workshops for children and seasonal events.

Suitable for all 4 years and older with adult supervision, children over 10 can be unsupervised.

Bookings are essential, non-refundable and non-transferable. We do, however, understand that things come up and try and accommodate people to the best of our ability. This can include moving people to another class or a refund - but please be aware that this is reliant on us filling the original spot.

This is because all of our pricing, and our efforts to keep costs as low as possible while still paying the tutors a fee commensurate with their experience and allowing them to cover the costs of living, is based on running these classes with a certain number of participants

We are grateful to the support of CNZ, which has enabled us to offer this workshop at a reduced rate.

Management of COVID-19 risk:

Please be assured this workshop will be managed with the utmost care in terms of risk management in relation to COVID-19. This will include: hand sanitiser being provided & its use required; hand washing facilities nearby; regular disinfection of shared surfaces, and everyone is invited to bring a mask to wear if they’d prefer to do so.

Participants who are unwell, or who are required to self-isolate, must not attend the workshop. Refunds will be given if participants need to miss the workshop in order to manage the risk of COVID-19, however we need to be advised of this as soon as possible, so that we can fill the space. Refunds will not be given if participants arrive to the workshop unwell on the day.
