Sunday 19 September, 9.30am-12pm - Hands-on introduction to soap-making with Sonia Barrish

This class is held at our Arts Centre workshop, which is located upstairs in the Boys’ High building at 28 Worcester Boulevard.

Sonia Barrish will show you how easy soap making can be so that you can build confidence towards making your own soap at home.

Together you will make a gentle and non-drying soap that contains shea butter, coconut oil and olive oil. You will also discuss the soap making process and how to develop it to suit your needs. You will go home with a bar of soap to cure and sample.

Safety is important in this workshop as we will be working with lye. Protective glasses are supplied. Please bring reusable dish gloves to protect your hands and wear long sleeves. We also suggest that you bring along a face mask for the mixing portion of the workshop.

Children must be over 13 years and come with one adult per child. Children over 16 years old are fine to come on their own.

There are 8 places in this workshop.

Minimum numbers are required for the class to run.

About your tutor Sonia Barrish

Sonia has a passion for living simply and sustainably. She enjoys and respects nature’s bounty and believes in making use of what can be found in nature to fulfil our everyday needs. Much of what she has learnt has been self-taught through extensive research, as well as trial & error. Sonia is now keen and ready to pass on this knowledge to others to enable their own sustainable lifestyle journeys.

Bookings are essential, non-refundable and non-transferable. We do, however, understand that things come up and try and accommodate people to the best of our ability. This can include moving people to another class or a refund - but please be aware that this is reliant on us filling the original spot.

This is because all of our pricing, and our efforts to keep costs as low as possible while still paying the tutors a fee commensurate with their experience and allowing them to cover the costs of living, is based on running these classes with a certain number of participants.

We are grateful to be able to offer this workshop in a partially subsidised manner because of support from Creative New Zealand, and from Te Matatiki Toi Ora the Arts Centre.

Management of COVID-19 risk:

Participants who are unwell, or who are required to self-isolate, must not attend the workshop. Refunds will be given if participants need to miss the workshop in order to manage the risk of COVID-19, however we need to be advised of this as soon as possible, so that we can fill the space. Refunds will not be given if participants arrive to the workshop unwell on the day.
