Saturday 9 July, 4.30-6.30pm, Hand-darning

Come along and learn how to hand darn with Steven Park in a class held at our Matatiki Toi Ora Arts Centre workshop, located upstairs in the former Boys’ High building at 28 Worcester Boulevard.

This workshop by Steven Park is a beautiful opportunity to re-engage with the ancient art of clothing repair through darning. It also grows your connection with your clothes through this time spent carefully appreciating its structure.

Bring any item of clothing made for mending and matching thread if you have it. Each mend is different and can be approached in many ways. You will learn to discover your own style of hand darning, as unique as your own handwriting!

This is a workshop suited for adults only, no children please. Masks are required for this workshop

Steven Junil Park is based in Ōtautahi Christchurch, was a resident in the Rekindle workshop between October 2020 and March 2021, funded by Creative New Zealand. He is the pair of hands behind the label '6x4' under which he explores all manner of objects to do with human living, focusing on apparel. His practice explores and masters object-making including clothing, jewellery, shoes and furniture. He makes individual works that often feature reused, natural dyed, or locally found materials.
