Saturday 20 August, 4:30- 6:30pm, Hand Sewn Buttonholes

Come along and learn how to hand sew button holes with Steven Park in a class held at our Matatiki Toi Ora Arts Centre workshop, located upstairs in the former Boys’ High building at 28 Worcester Boulevard.

Learning how to hand sew a button hole gives a beautiful useful skill when making or altering your clothes, and this grows your connection with your clothes through this hand-work.  This workshop by Steven Park of 6x4 is a beautiful opportunity to re-engage with ancient art of the hand sewn button hole.

Bring along an item of clothing or other that needs a buttonhole and matching thread if possible.

Steven Junil Park is based in Ōtautahi Christchurch, was a resident in the Rekindle workshop between October 2020 and March 2021, funded by Creative New Zealand. He is the pair of hands behind the label '6x4' under which he explores all manner of objects to do with human living, focusing on apparel. His practice explores and masters object-making including clothing, jewellery, shoes and furniture. He makes individual works that often feature reused, natural dyed, or locally found materials.

Bookings are non-refundable

A credit may be issued if you are unable to attend due to illness or COVID isolation and advise Rekindle as soon as possible, prior to your workshop. A transfer fee may apply.

Credits will not be issued with less than 24 hours notice given.

We are grateful to be able to offer this workshop because of support from Creative New Zealand, and from Te Matatiki Toi Ora The Arts Centre.
