This class takes place at the Rekindle workshop in the Arts Centre.
We are now offering this class in a two-hour format.
This course will teach you how to make a versatile brush using the resources we find around us: tī kōuka / cabbage tree leaves as these are abundantly available, and hazel wood sticks.
You will learn to make very fine cord making using our tī kōuka string-making technique, with further skills in fibre preparation and extraction, basic hole drilling and a useful lashing technique to bring your brush together.
The brush you will make can be used for painting, dying, oiling (whether for woodwork or in the kitchen), cleaning in tricky spots, dusting out the coffee grinder and everything else in between.
All materials and tools will be provided but please bring some leaves. If you have access to tī kōuka / cabbage tree leaves, do bring in as big a bundle as you can!
Also bring an intention or job for your brush and if time allows we can work to tweak the brush for the specific job.
This class is suitable for adults.
Minimum numbers are required for the class to run.
Bookings are essential, non-refundable and non-transferable. We do, however, understand that things come up and try and accommodate people to the best of our ability. This can include moving people to another class or a refund - but please be aware that this is reliant on us filling the original spot.
This is because all of our pricing, and our efforts to keep costs as low as possible while still paying the tutors a fee commensurate with their experience and allowing them to cover the costs of living, is based on running these classes with a certain number of participants
We are grateful for the support of CNZ, which has allowed us to offer this class at a subsidised rate.
