Ōtepoti Dunedin: Felt Hottie Covers - 21 October, 1:30pm-5pm

Come along this Labour Weekend and learn how to make felt hottie covers with Simone Bensdorp. Workshops will be held at the O Block Hub at Dunedin School of Art Otago Polytechnic on Anzac Ave (entrance beside the Anzac Ave Bridge, parking is available in Minerva street opposite). More detailed information will be provided prior to the workshop.

In this workshop, Simone will teach you how to make a cosy felt cover for your hot water bottle, using natural, un-dyed, New Zealand wool and traditional felting techniques.

Wool felt-making is the oldest known way to make fabric, simply by combining wool, soap and water. This handmade product requires no fancy machines or chemicals, it is a simple practice that anyone can learn and use.

You will design and make your own felt hottie cover and leave with the skills to continue felting other basic objects at home.

Please bring two towels and a bar of soap, plus your hottie (so you can try it on for size!). All other materials will be provided. It is also a good idea to bring a spare bag for your towels and case as they may still be wet after the class.

Simone Bensdorp is a textile artist and teacher with a passion for sustainability and creativity. Her work is grounded by a philosophy of resourcefulness, using local, repurposed and sustainable materials wherever possible. She is committed to keeping traditional felt making skills alive, while continuing to expand and push boundaries with contemporary techniques.

Simone's workshops aim to equip people with practical skills, whilst providing a safe space for creative expression and learning.

Cancellations

We are reliant on full workshops to cover our considerable travel costs from Ōtautahi Christchurch. Therefore, bookings are strictly non-refundable unless we can be advised in enough time to be able to sell your ticket to someone else.

Please let us know as soon as possible if you think you may not make it so we can try to do this for you. You may also choose to transfer your booking to another name. If Rekindle needs to cancel the workshop for any reason, you will be fully refunded
