Friday 22 July, 2–3.30pm, Craft Opportunities- Wet Felt Making for youngsters

Come along and learn how to wet felt with Simone Bensdorp in a workshop held at our Matatiki Toi Ora Arts Centre workshop, which is located upstairs in the former Boys’ High building.

Children aged 6-8 years may attend with an adult to support them. Children aged 9 years and over can attend on their own.

This workshop is free/low-cost for Community Service Card holders, though donations are appreciated. The standard workshop price of $36 applies for those without cards. Please select the appropriate option at the bottom of the page.

In this workshop, Simone Bensdorp will teach you how to make felt using a traditional wet felting technique. We will use natural merino wool to create a flat piece of felt, which can be embellished with your own designs. Wool felt-making is the oldest known way to make fabric, simply by combining wool, soap and water. This handmade product requires no fancy machines or chemicals, it is a simple practice that anyone can learn and use.

Please bring one towel, all other materials will be provided. It is also a good idea to bring a spare bag for your towel and felt, as they may still be wet after the class.

Bookings are non-refundable

A credit may be issued if you are unable to attend due to illness or COVID isolation and advise Rekindle as soon as possible, prior to your workshop. A transfer fee may apply.

Credits will not be issued with less than 24 hours notice given.

We are grateful to be able to offer this workshop because of support from Creative New Zealand, and from Te Matatiki Toi Ora The Arts Centre.
