Wednesday 6 July, 6.30–8.30pm, A beginner's guide to resourceful upholstery (talk and demo) with Nigel Cook

Come along to an Upholstery Talk with Nigel Cook in a workshop held at our Matatiki Toi Ora Arts Centre workshop, which is located upstairs in the former Boys’ High building at 28 Worcester Boulevard.

Join in this fun session and explore the many possibilities of upholstery. Upholsterer Nigel Cook will share a beginner’s guide to getting started in upholstery, with an emphasis on using materials readily available in the Ōtautahi Christchurch community to enable as much reuse as possible.

This is a demo & talk session, with a chance for participants to draw and design.

Nigel will cover the tools required for upholstery, the basic idea of fabric placement, the development of a cutting plan, a method for calculating the amount of fabric required, an overview of fabric styles and a few fun tips to think about.

You don’t need to know anything about upholstery or how to design. This is simply a chance to enjoy exploring ideas within this craft - we will supply pencils and paper and you are welcome to bring something to colour with.

Minimum numbers are required for the class to run.

Bookings are non-refundable

A credit may be issued if you are unable to attend due to illness or COVID isolation and advise Rekindle as soon as possible, prior to your workshop. A transfer fee may apply.

Credits will not be issued with less than 24 hours notice given.

We are grateful to be able to offer this workshop in a partially subsidised manner because of support from Creative New Zealand, and from Te Matatiki Toi Ora the Arts Centre.
