Saturday 18 February, 3.00- 4.30pm, Weave a putiputi

Course Overview

You will learn how to weave a putiputi (Lily Flower) using harakeke (New Zealand Flax). In this beginner craft workshop, you will learn how to hāpine (soften) the harakeke, and discover the rhythm of the takitahi (over-under) pattern of weaving. You'll also learn how to use a pasta machine to make harakeke ribbon, as well as the processes and tikanga that need to be observed when harvesting harakeke.

Please note, there are very limited places in these workshops, so please only book if you are sure you can make it on the day.  This is usually a 1 and a half hour workshop, but depending on the group it can sometimes take longer. Please make sure you have a spare hour afterwards for if you need to stay on to finish.
