Learn how to weave a useful two-piece slide case for glasses, phone, notebook, even seed packets fit well into these. Bring along something to make it to fit. In this workshop you will be using Māori techniques and the natural material of harakeke with local kairaranga Ngaio Cowell. Ngaio will also share about the processes and tikanga that need to be observed when harvesting harakeke. This will be a relaxed workshop where you can work individually or with others.
Please note; There are limited spaces for this workshop, so please only book if you are sure you can make it on the day. This is usually a 4 hour workshop, but depending on the group it can sometimes take longer. Please make sure you have a spare hour afterwards for if you need to stay on to finish.

Why?
Ngaio Cowell (Tainui; Ngaati Te Ata & Ngāti Porou) is a craftsperson who takes inspiration from nature. Ngaio is currently continuing to develop her raranga skills through Te Wānanga o Aotearoa. She has learnt to weave with tī kōuka from Diana Duncan and continues to create artworks from foraged and native materials through business Tipu Toi. Ngaio is passionate about Kai sovereignty and will be teaching as part of our Resourceful Kai Programme.
