This class with Greg Quinn is held in two parts at our woodland workshop in the lovely Brandenburg Coppice, out at Lincoln University.
Come along and learn how to make a three-legged greenwood stool!
Session 1: Sunday 7 March, 10am–3pm at Lincoln University
Make your stool seat and legs. The legs then need to be dried before fitting, so we will do this for you prior to the next session. We will be based in the beautiful Brandenburg Coppice, a unique woodland on the Lincoln University campus.
Session 2: Sunday 21 March, 10am-3pm at Lincoln University
Fit the legs into the stool seat, trim and finish the seat, and then level the legs.
You will learn basic whittling techniques with the draw-knife and travisher, and how to wedge a leg into a stool top, and other lovely resourceful skills. You’ll learn all about the ancient traditions of greenwood-working in a stunning outdoor setting.
Please note: This workshop is for adults and only suited to those who can work safely without direct supervision with very sharp hand tools.
After you’ve booked, we’ll send you information re what to bring, wear and how to find us nearer the workshop date.
There are 6 places available in this workshop.
Minimum numbers are required for the class to run.
Bookings are essential, non-refundable and non-transferable. We do, however, understand that things come up and try and accommodate people to the best of our ability. This can include moving people to another class or a refund - but please be aware that this is reliant on us filling the original spot. This will also incur a $5 admin fee.
This is because all of our pricing, and our efforts to keep costs as low as possible while still paying the tutors a fee commensurate with their experience and allowing them to cover the costs of living, is based on running these classes with a certain number of participants.
We are grateful to be able to offer this workshop in a partially subsidised manner because of support from Creative New Zealand.
Management of COVID-19 risk:
Please be assured this workshop will be managed with the utmost care in terms of risk management in relation to COVID-19. This will include: the workshop space being set-up with a minimum of 1 metre space between group members; hand sanitiser being provided & its use required; no sharing of tools/materials, regular disinfection of shared surfaces, and everyone is invited to bring a mask to wear if they’d prefer to do so.
Participants who are unwell, or who are required to self-isolate, must not attend the workshop. Refunds will be given if participants need to miss the workshop in order to manage the risk of COVID-19, however we need to be advised of this as soon as possible, so that we can fill the space. Refunds will not be given if participants arrive to the workshop unwell on the day.
