Thursday 20 April, 11- 1.30pm, Craft Opportunities- Weave a kono for Rangatahi

Course Overview

In this youngsters workshop, you will learn to weave a small kono (square basket) with local kairaranga Ngaio Cowell. A wonderful beginner workshops for rangatahi with an interest in craft.

 

Please note: Children aged 10-12 years may attend with an adult to support them. Children aged 13 years and over can attend on their own. Please come in to speak with the tutor at the start and leave an emergency contact number, and return prior to the end time of the workshop to collect them.

A partial credit may be issued if you are unable to attend due to illness or COVID isolation. Please advise Rekindle as soon as possible, prior to your workshop.

Maker

Ngaio Cowell (Tainui; Ngaati Te Ata & Ngāti Porou) is a craftsperson who takes inspiration from nature. Ngaio is currently continuing to develop her raranga skills through Te Wānanga o Aotearoa. She has learnt to weave with tī kōuka from Diana Duncan and continues to create artworks from foraged and native materials through business Tipu Toi. Ngaio is passionate about Kai sovereignty and will be teaching as part of our Resourceful Kai Programme.
