Necessary Traditions Festival 2018
We are SO excited about our festival Necessary Traditions which runs across a week from 8th to 17th November 2018, for the very first time. This event is based at the beautiful Arts Centre in central Ōtautahi Christchurch, and the festival programme comprises of:
- Thursday 8th November – Festival Opening & Pecha Kucha in the Great Hall at the Arts Centre
- Saturday 10th & Sunday 11th November – Necessary Traditions the main event, you’ll see over 40 skilled people demonstrate their necessary traditions at the stunningly restored Arts Centre. Learn new resourceful skills, enjoy local food & good music, and find new inspiration.
- 10th to 17th November – Necessary Traditions Guest Speakers – Hear from botanists, ecologists & other tohunga about the history, use & health of local resources or taonga e.g. harakeke, tī kōuka, tōtara & other indigenous species, basket willow, water & land.
- Monday 12th to 17th November – Necessary Traditions Workshops – Learn from craftspeople in a vast array of classes. Bookings will be essential.
The main festival event across the weekend on the 10th & 11th is a ticketed event where you’ll see these skilled people demonstrate their necessary traditions at the stunningly restored Arts Centre –
